Former Corbett superintendent and charter director will speak to board
A public hearing on a proposed charter school in the Reynolds School District is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Fairview City Hall’s chambers.
Bob Dunton, the former director of Corbett Charter School and former superintendent of the Corbett School District, will give a presentation on The Egan School, Rockwood.
The proposed Rockwood lease agreement hinges on charter approval from the Reynolds Schools District, where the property lies.
On Wednesday, the public will have an opportunity to comment during the charter hearing. Documents on proposed charter may be found at www.reynolds.k12.or.us/district/school-board.
On Oct. 8, the board is expected to vote on the proposal at its board meeting
New K-12 Charter School Coming to Rockwood, Project To Begin April 2014, Completion 2015
The new 700 student K-12 school will have twenty-eight classrooms, a student commons, administrative offices, auditorium, food services, plus covered and open outdoor play areas.
Rockwood Community Development Corporation, the project's developer, says the Corbett Charter School Association has agreed on a lease to create the new school, which will border E. Burnside and S.E. Stark Street along the MAX Blue Line.
The success of the nationally acclaimed Corbett Charter School, which shares school buildings inside the Corbett School District, has created a waiting list of new students (mostly from east Multnomah county) wanting to enroll in the highly successful program. High demand and lack of space is one of the reasons for building the new school.

Rockwood in Motion Enters Next Phase of Work, 188th/187th Avenue Realignment Begins
![]() 188/187 realignment begins |
Start Street Boulevard completes.
|
One project completes
One major Urban Renewal-funded project is successfully wrapping up and another is about to get under way in Central Rockwood. The Stark Street Boulevard project is finishing up work to Stark between 190th and 199th, with the final round of concrete work and landscape planting to be completed any day now. The project improved sidewalks, bike lanes and crosswalks along this important arterial street, and added new street lights and landscaping.
Another project begins
At the same time, the 187th Avenue project is about to begin, with demolition of the north part of the Rockwood Community Office building leading off work that will build a new street connection from 187th and Stark to 188th and Burnside across the east end of former Fred Meyer site (the southern portion of the building used by Gresham Police will remain as is). When it’s complete, this new street will provide a much safer direct connection between the Rockwood MAX station and the neighborhood to the south of Stark, complete with a new signal at 187th and Stark, which should reduce much of the current conflict between vehicles and pedestrians on that stretch of Stark. Rockwood: Overnight paving planned on Stark Street, Expect delays thru Oct 5, 2010

Stark Street Project
|
Expect delays overnight
Starting today, crews will grind and place new pavement overlay on Stark Street in Rockwood between 190th and 199th avenues, including the approaches to Stark on Burnside Road. This work is part of Rockwood in Motion and the second phase of safety and boulevard improvements to Stark Street. The work is being conducted at night to minimize delays to the public.
Night work is anticipated from 8PM to 6AM Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 29-30, and will include flagging of the Stark/Burnside intersection, which may delay traffic in the area. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
Paving will continue the first week in October to the east of Burnside on Stark Street down to 199th Avenue; Monday or Tuesday night, weather permitting. This work is anticipated to be finished in one night between 8PM. and 6AM. This pavement work will take one lane at a time and may require minor, periodic detours from side streets as the crews work around cooling asphalt.
