Let's Go Walking! When: Sat Sep 28, 2013 11AM-12:30PM Where: Meet at Gresham History Museum 410 N Main Av Downtown Gresham Get Map!

Come tour Historic Downtown Gresham, and learn about its historic buildings and homes, historic graves and trees, some historic local figures, and about the shops that used to line Main Ave. Tours weave throughout Historic Downtown Gresham, are fast paced, and will cover around a mile of mostly flat level ground.

Tours leave at 11:00AM sharp, rain or shine, and are free. Donations are always accepted and much appreciated. Parking is available in the lot behind the museum.

Annual Teddy Bear Parade

Teddy Bears Everwhere
The parade will feature floats from local merchants, service organizations, schools, neighborhood groups and individuals. As always, participants will be carrying teddy bears or will be dressed in bear costumes.

For over three decades, the Soroptimists have put on this annual Fall parade to celebrate the “child in all of us” and create a tradition that helped Gresham’s “quaint and special downtown area” to thrive. In addition to the parade, the Soroptimists organize fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for scholarships for deserving women and girls in our community.

Be prepared to get a little dirty and to have fun by supporting and volunteering with Friends of Nadaka and Wilkes East Neighborhood Association.

Rain or Shine! Come dressed for weather and help improve Nadaka Nature Park. Bring working gloves & a water bottle if you have them. Volunteer as long as you can. Drinks and snacks will be provided for volunteers.

The Wilkes East Neighborhood board has created a draft transportation policy for consideration by its members. The policy addresses our local transportation needs as well as regional needs that impact our neighborhood. Read more

Let's Go Walking!
Join us on another great Ten Toe Express walk throughout inner-city Portland sponsored by the Portland Bureau of Transportation. The Ten Toe Express program is a series of guided walks held Thursdays @ 6PM and Saturdays @ 9AM from May 9th through September 21st 2013.

Each easy and informal Ten Toe Express walk explores the area neighborhood, architecture and unique history. Walk takes about 2 hours, cover 2-4 miles and are open to all ages and skill levels. Did we mention it's free!

"Name Your Price" Cat Adoption Special! The Multnomah County animal shelter has become overrun with cats and kittens so they’re asking the public to help out with foster care or adoptions.

The shelter has the capacity to hold 90 cats but they currently have 115. Shelter officials are pleading with the public to step up, bring a cat into your home.

The shelter also continues to offer its “Name Your Own Price” special discount for cat adoptions. Multnomah County Animal Services is located at 1700 W. Columbia River Highway (Get Map) in Troutdale.

Nadaka Nature Park, through a partnership with Gresham, is awarded a $523,000 grant for park improvements

Source: Gresham Outlook, August 2, 2013 The state has awarded a $523,000 grant to fund improvements at Nadaka Nature Park in Gresham’s Wilkes East neighborhood. "It is unbelievable," said Lee Dayfieid, who cried, laughed and screamed when she heard the news last week that the park, through its partnership with the city of Gresham, won the $523,480 grant from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

The money means that the little-known and once-neglected forested area in the middle of the city can become a full-blown neighborhood park complete with community gardens, a nature-based play area, picnic shelter and improved walking trail.
