City of Gresham, Earth Day 2016 Recycling Event: Sat Apr 23, 2016 9AM-2PM

The City will hold its annual free recycling event in celebration of Earth Day. The recycling event is free to Gresham and Wood Village residents (businesses may only participate in recycling fluorescents).
We will also be looking for volunteers for this year's event. Tasks may include directing traffic, handing out flyers, uploading materials from automobiles and sorting materials.

Volunteers needed
If you would like to volunteer at this event and for more information, contact Meghan Borato at Meghan.Borato@GreshamOregon.gov or 503-618-2134. Deadline to sign up is April 8. 
Collection item details
The City is working with Green Century Electronic Recycling and AccuShred to process collected items this year.
- Small appliances and small electronics (see list of examples)
- Large rigid plastics/clean plastic bags - for items not accepted in curbside recycling
- Block Styrofoam/ clean and dry (no squishy foam or food related)
- Paper ONLY shredding (limit two grocery bags per household)
- Fluorescent tubes and bulbs/boxes available at City Hall
- Cell phones
Items NOT collected at this event
- Batteries - these can be taken to Batteries Plus at 2438 SE Burnside Road, 503-328-0009
- Small plastics (lids, caps)
- Televisions
- All hazardous waste materials (paint, aerosol cans, gas cans, needles)
- All construction, remodeling or demolition materials (including asbestos containing materials)
- All kitchen garbage
- Residential yard debris and trimmings
- Waste and recyclables collected curbside
Batteries and hazardous waste items from residences (no businesses) can be taken to the Metro Hazardous Waste Neighborhood Round Up event happening April 23 as well as other dates that may be convenient.

Bring your recyclables to Gresham City Hall, Sat April 20th 9AM to 2PM
Earth Day Recycling. Rain or Shine!
Every year the City holds a free recycling event in April around Earth Day. The recycling event is free to Gresham and Wood Village residents (businesses may only participate in recycling fluorescents).
Begin saving your recyclable items and bring them to Gresham City Hall on Saturday, April 20.
Collection Items
- Rigid plastics/clean plastic bags (not accepted in curbside recycling)
- Styrofoam™
- Paper shredding (two boxes per household)
- Fluorescent tubes and lights
- Cell phones
- Batteries (3lb. limit per household)
Electronics
The City does not accept electronics at the Earth Day recycling event.
Options for Recycling Electronics:
• TVs, computers and monitors can be recycled for free year-round at several recycling sites (Goodwill, Salvation Army) in Gresham.
• Metro has two household hazardous waste facilities open for drop-off. See Metro's website for more information.
• Metro also holds household hazardous collection events.
Or, take your items to a recycler year-round. Contact Metro Recycling at 503-234-3000 for location and material information.

With the holiday's upon us, here's a few tips for proper disposal of unwanted wrapping paper, wreaths and trees.
Holiday Recycling Questions
- Can glossy holiday gift bags go in the blue cart?
 Paper gift bags can be recycled. Tip: Usually if you can tear the paper fairly easily it will pulp up at the paper mill. Gift bags can be reused or donated to charity.
- Can cellophane or foil wrapping paper go in the blue cart?
 Non-paper wrapping material should not go in the blue roll carts. Most “foil-like” paper is metallic ink on paper and is accepted with recycling.
- Can present ribbons be recycled in the blue cart?
