Help beautify our park!

Join other volunteers to clear invasive plants & beautify Nadaka Nature Park, a beautiful 10-acre natural area.

Bring you own work gloves & water bottle if you have them.

Project Activities: Volunteers will clear underbrush and lift the canopy in Nadaka Nature Park. It is a beautiful 10-acre natural area, but it is overgrown. Cleanup will make the park safer and more inviting. Activities include: Cleanup, Invasive Plant Removal, Pruning.

Bagels, muffins, coffee, & water will be provided!

Join us for a morning stroll

In celebration of Great Blue Heron Week, join Jim Labbe with the Audubon Society of Portland and Lee Dayfield with Wilkes East Neighborhood Association for a morning stroll through Nakada Nature Park in West Gresham. We’ll explore the natural and human history of this unique neighborhood nature park and learn about efforts afoot to expand the park, improve access and environmental interpretation, and enhance its wildlife habitat. We’ll also begin the documenting of bird species inhabiting the park and discuss the value of urban natural areas to avian biodiversity.

New sign, new plants, invasive species removal Get a litte dirty. Join us for a park cleanup!

New plants added

There is a lot going on at Nadaka Nature Park, NE 176th Ave & NE Pacific St
(Click here for a map). In addition to removing invasives at WENA's March 8th park cleanup, the entire front along NE Pacific St was cleaned up outside the fence. Also 130 native plants and trees were planted along the NE Pacific St side of the park.

Here's a list of what was planted:

New sign, barbed wire removed

The new Nadaka Park sign should be installed within a month. WENA was able to purchase the new sign along with removing the barbed wire on NE Pacific St with a grant obtained last year. This year WENA's Friends of Nadaka group has applied for a Metro Nature in Neighborhood grant for improvements to Nadaka which we should find out about in May. This is a matching grant 1:1 so we will need volunteer help as well as in-kind donations. Interested parties should contact Lee Dayfield by email at leedayfield@wilkeseastna.org.

Cleanup Info

On Sunday, March 8th from 9AM to 3PM the Wilkes East Neighborhood will be holding another cleanup at Nadaka Park. Winter storms have left a mess in our parks. Come on by, and give us a hand! Spend all day, or whatever time you can. Dress warmly. Bring your gloves, clippers, and yard tools.

If you haven't seen Nadaka Park lately you owe it to yourself to see the many improvements!

About Nadaka Park

Nadaka Park is a lovely 10-acre parcel of "natural area" that includes a walking trail loop, tall trees, native plants, and a beautiful grassy meadow. Nadaka is located in the Wilkes East Neighborhood just north of NE Glisan St. The only public entrance to the park is on NE Pacific St at NE 176th Ave. Directions: from either NE 172nd Ave, or NE 181st Ave, take NE Pacific St to NE 176th Ave. Parking is curbside. Enter through the main gate.

2008 INTEL-SOLV "Clean & Green" event at Nadaka Park

27 Adults and 8 children braved the crisp weather to participate in the INTEL-SOLV Nadaka Clean-Up on Saturday October 11th, contributing over 110 hours of volunteer effort.

Lots of back breaking work was done, so you can now see from the walking path to the fence at Pacific Street and the homes along the way. A renewal of old friendships and new friends were made and another generation of volunteers learned the ropes of how to have fun and get a job done.
