Join Columbia Slough Watershed Council for Plantapalooza 2014! This is one in a series of community focused native planting events. Help restore an acre of stream-side habitat along Fairview Creek in Gresham! This project helps to stabilize the sensitive habitat around the creek and improves water quality in the creek and in our groundwater supply. Plantapalooza 2014 offers volunteers a unique opportunity to participate in a large scale restoration project.
Volunteers will assist in planting hundreds of bare-root native plants. No previous planting experience is necessary. Plantapalooza is a great, hands-on learning opportunity appropriate for families, groups and individuals. Register today!

Ernest Bloch: The Man and His Music
Swiss-born composer Ernest Bloch was first and foremost known around the world for his music, blending a variety of musical influences, including Jewish, Swiss, and Native American. In later years, Bloch lived on the Oregon coast, and was inspired by its natural beauty. Bloch’s works are still being performed to this day. Bloch was well known for his music, but people may not know that he was also an avid amateur photographer. The program features Bloch music for string quartet, his words, and photography.

Portland-based Third Angle New Music pushes the boundaries of the expected with the creation and performance of contemporary musical events, works and collaborations. It’s an opportunity to rethink the conditions of the performance itself. Being new music, you never know what is going to happen next.

Take a step back into history at the Zimmerman House, a Victorian era farmhouse, built in 1874 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This beautiful farmhouse is a perfect reflection of typical Columbia River dairy farm life in the late 1800s. The Zimmerman Heritage Farm is a unique cultural education and recreational resource that is being created for the benefit of the public on a 5.98-acre historic site in Gresham, Oregon.

This three-mile walk begins at the Multnomah Arts Center. We'll walk through Multnomah Village to Gabriel Park along paved gravel and natural trails that lead to the Southwest Community Center. After a short break at the center, walk the woodsy trails along a creek to a community garden before heading back to town. The group will stop for lunch at Marco’s Café before returning to cars.

- Difficulty: Moderate
- Elevation gain: 200 feet
Sturdy walking shoes are recommended.

Assist Columbia Slough Watershed Council’s SERVE (Students Engaged in Restoring Vital Ecosystems) program at this Stewardship Saturday event. The SERVE program exposes local students to hands-on restoration work in the Slough watershed, and now you can help! Improve water quality and habitat conditions by planting and mulching native plant species along Wilkes Creek. Volunteers will also assist in park clean up, fence removal and the management of invasive plant species. Register Today!

This walk totals three miles on two different trails in Happy Valley. The walk begins with a loop hike on the Mt Scott Nature Trail at the newly dedicated Studebaker trailhead, which starts with a steep downhill trek into the forest. Hiking boots and poles are recommended for the Mt. Scott Nature Trail portion of this hike.
The group will then drive to Happy Valley Park for the second portion of the hike on walking trails through the park’s wetland areas.

- Elevation gain: 250 feet
Dress appropriately for the weather and bring water and a snack to eat along the way.

2014 Astronomy Preview
Join us for a tour of the night sky where you'll whiz through universe from the comfort of your seat!
There are three shows this evening, with start times at 6:00PM, 7:15PM and 8:30PM.
The Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) Planetarium opens the year with more great public shows, a move to a new night and a state-of-the-art digital star projection system.
Each show is presented under a realistic representation of the night sky, featuring the latest galactic, stellar and planetary images.
Visitors are encouraged to ask questions during each program. Children are welcome to attend.

This activity is an easy 3.5-mile walk, nearly all on a level, paved trail. The group will walk from Target in Fairview to Salish Ponds, down Glisan Street to the Gresham-Fairview Trail to about Division Street, and then return along the same path.

- Difficulty: Easy
- Elevation gain: Level terrain
Lunch will follow the hike at Carlino’s in Fairview. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather.
