Capri Terrace Spring Meeting
Great turn out for their first quarterly meeting of the year. 41 members, 5 firemen along with 1 new household joined the Capri Terrace Neighborhood Watch Group. Several of our families had phoned indicating they were making an early start on Spring Break and were disappointed to miss the event.
Gresham Fire sent a big beautiful truck with their team to talk to us about home safety and were very gracious in answering many questions. They brought plenty of useful and informative materials to hand out including several new home CO detectors which were raffled during their presentation.
Billy & Laurie Simmon’s along with their twin daughters Alex & Andi hosted a lovely Daffodil & Springtime luncheon/dinner. Irish-Swiss Stew was prepared for the occasion along with a huge offering of salads, Shamrock/Easter cakes, pies and cupcakes by group members. Potluck's are a great way to meet neighbors and a lot of fun too!

911 Visits Capri Terrace
The topic for the Capri Terrace neighborhood watch was "when to call 911 vs., the non-emergency number".
About 35 people attended the Fall meeting held Nov 8th. A spokesperson from the Bureau of Emergency Communications (BOEC), Melanie Payne (Training and Development) gave the "do's and dont's" for using the 911 system. Melanie did a great job informing everyone about how the system works. She also stressed that kids need to know their address as early on as possible. People need to know when to use the non-emergency number: (503) 823-3333. "911" should only be used when the situation involves saving a Life, stopping a crime in progress, or reporting a fire.
Kevin and Tammy Hanson did a great job hosting. Just in time for Fall there were two large pots of soup, salad, and an assortment of deserts for everyone to enjoy.

East Metro Gang Enforcement Team slideshow brings local gang activity home to Capri Terrace residents |
Neighbors hear gang presentation
Officer John Pemberton, East Metro Gang Enforcement Team (EMGET) spoke to the Capri Neighborhood Watch group in mid-June. 17 families along with 8 children heard about graffiti & gangs in the surrounding areas.
During the slideshow presentation neighbors learned in East Multnomah County alone there are over 129 active documented criminal street gangs, over 700 active documented gang members, and only 7 cops dedicated to combating gangs and gang violence. Officer Pemberton reminded everyone to photograph any graffiti they found before removing it and to mark the location & date the tagging was found before sending the photo to the Police. Neighbors were urged to report gang activity to 503-666-1844.
Bob & Mary Lundbom & their grandson hosted the event with hot dogs, multitudes of toppings along with lots of potluck sides and goodies.
Member presentations
Jerry Dunn gave an update on neighbor Gail Anderson. She is still in the hospital in Charlotte North Carolina. Everyone had signed a card for her the previous week & had been received by her with much appreciation.
Discussion regarding Code Enforcement & debris on a couple of neighborhood sites was discussed. A reminder about the up coming neighborhood Clean-Up and the Capri Terrace Neighborhood Garage Sale were mentioned.
Glenn Mathew, Watch Coordinator, gave an update of the happenings in our Watch area, which were relatively ZERO. He had hand outs, but also reminded members to check out the website CrimeReports.com, to follow crimes in the Gresham area.

Great turnout, great entertainment
99.9% of the Capri Terrace Watch Group along with 2 new households gathered for their first quarterly meeting of 2009. 2 families had phoned indicating they were ill and couldn't make it (they missed a good time). Billy & Laurie Simmon's along with their twin daughters Alex & Andie hosted a lovely Shamrock & Springtime luncheon/dinner. 13.5 lbs of stew meat (none was left-over) was prepared for the occasion along with lots of desserts and salads. A huge display of Easter Egg cupcakes fit for an Easter Bunny King were seen brightening up a very windy, but sunny day. We also were entertained with some Irish Violin music by Laurie & Alex Simmon's.
