Ceremony Set to Honor Koda, Citizens

The Gresham Police Department will take a moment to say ‘farewell’ to Koda, as well as ‘thank you’ to the many who have supported the Police Department in a ceremony scheduled for October 31st, at City Hall. Police Chief Carla Piluso will be on hand to honor Koda for his service and thank the members of the public who provided support after Koda was injured while tracking a dangerous suspect.

Chief Piluso will make several presentations, as a way to say thank you to the many that have supported Koda, who was injured while apprehending a wanted felon earlier this year. In the course of the arrest, Koda fell off of a cliff, breaking his leg and ending his career as a police Canine. Among the recipients scheduled to be honored:

  • Safeway, for their generous donation to the K-9 unit;
  • Southeast Portland Animal Clinic for their donation of services related to Koda’s injuries;
  • Betty White, for her contributions and continued support of the K-9 unit;
  • A retirement plaque will be presented to Koda and his handler Officer Shaun Debler
