Get Invloved, Make a Difference

When: Tue, Sep 22, 2020 1PM-2PM
Where: Online meeting via Zoom

Join us for a virtual open house, to be held with two separate one-hour Zoom sessions that fit your schedule.

We'll review:

  • Community feedback on six park concept plan designs
  • Concept plan report outlining potential enhancements for Gresham's six undeveloped parks, which aim to reflect the needs of each neighborhood and the overall Gresham community while also protecting access to nature

A vital part of the City's planning process is hearing from the community, to ensure all voices are heard. Since early 2019, Gresham residents have provided input through online surveys as well as on-site and virtual events. The concepts aim to meet the current and future demands of Gresham's growing population. They also outline financial needs for developing the parks in the future if funding is identified.

A Zoom link to register for this event will be posted soon.

For questions about this event, contact Tina Osterink, Natural Resource Planner at Tina.Osterink@GreshamOregon.gov or 503-618-2392.

Let's Go Walking!

When: Wed, Jul 29, 2020 10AM-2PM
Where: Meet at trailhead in Oxbow Park
Get Map!

Hiking during COVID-19 pandemic

  • All participants must wear facial masks and practice social distancing during Senior Healthy Hikers group events.
  • We will no longer carpool to the trailhead. Participants are responsible for their own transportation.
  • Driving directions (with the beginning point at Gresham City Hall) will be distributed at least three days prior to the event.

Hike details

  • Distance: About 3.5 miles
  • Difficulty: Easy/moderate
  • Elevation gain: Approximately 200 feet
  • Trail conditions: Packed dirt through forest, some gravel
  • Round-trip travel: Approximately 18 miles
  • Park fee: $5 per car, or free with a Metro Parks Annual Pass

Big, old-growth trees typically have a few things in common: they grow in temperate climates with significant rainfall, they live on protected land and they are close to rivers. Oxbow Regional Park provides all of the above, and the trails we will be hiking will lead us into the heart of the old-growth forest of Douglas Fir, Western Hemlock, Big Leaf Maple, Red Alder, Black Cottonwood, and Western Red Cedar.

The beginning and end of our hike will be through the old-growth forest and, in-between, we.ll spend much of the time hiking along the Sandy River, with views of the water, sand, and perhaps even salmon jumping after a bug.

We.ll send more a detailed update, along with the driving directions, a few days prior to the hike. Hiking boots and walking sticks are recommended . especially in inclement weather. Most of the hike will be under the trees, so hats are optional, but are also recommended. Bring some snacks and water to enjoy during the hike. Our lunch will depend on the COVID-19 status. If we.re allowed to use the picnic tables, we will. If not, we.ll tailgate. In any event, bring a nice brown bag lunch to enjoy.

For more information about this hike please contact Steve or Micky Solcz at 503-367-8483 or steve.solcz@gmail.com.

Senior Healthy Hikers asks that participants be 50 or older. A couple wishing to hike is welcome if one member of the couple is 50 or better.

Pets are not permitted on our hikes or walks.
