Gresham is updating its rules for food and beverage carts (coffee carts, mobile food vendors, taco trucks) and temporary uses (farmers' markets, Christmas tree lots, fruit and veggie stands, and similar uses).

The City Council will consider changes to rules, processes, fees and inspections at its 6 p.m. Oct. 1 meeting. Public comments are welcome.

Changes include:

  • Sorting uses into four categories: Temporary, Intermittent, Interim and Food and Beverage Carts
  • New definitions.
  • Clarify where uses are permitted.
  • Establish safety rules, including for lighting, site ingress and egress, pedestrian hazards, fire separation and rules for drive-throughs.
  • Set compatibility rules, including for setbacks, increased distance from residential uses, adequate parking and bathrooms for food service uses.
  • Provide appearance rules, including for signage; screening; maintenance; quality of shelter for customers; and not allowing food carts in motorized vehicles if they are to remain on a site for more than four hours.

All meeting locations are ADA accessible. To request accommodations such as sign language and/or interpreter, please call 503-618-2697 at least two business days in advance of the meeting.
