Volunteers needed for invasives removal at Nadaka Nature Park,Jan 9th 9AM-2PM

Wilkes East Neighborhood has received a Metro Nature in Neighborhood grant for improvements in Nadaka Nature Park which requires matching volunteer hours so your support is needed and greatly appreciated. See you at the park!

Event Info
Be prepared to get a little dirty and to have fun by supporting and volunteering with Friends of Nadaka and Wilkes East Neighborhood Association in their efforts to restore this natural area by removing invasive underbrush and ivy.

Rain or Shine! Come dressed for weather and help improve Nadaka Nature Park. Bring working gloves & a water bottle if you have them. Volunteer as long as you can.

Anyone wanting to donate food or drinks for the volunteers should contact Lee at 503-998-1044 or email leewilkeseastna@hotmail.com

No pre-registration required. Volunteers younger than 18 will need a signed waiver (available at the event).

Growing Communities
Friends of Trees has been planting trees in communities for 20 years, helping to reduce air pollution and stormwater runoff, as well as beautifying our neighborhoods.
New Trees for Our Neighborhood
This winter, Friends of Trees is coming to Gresham and conducting a tree planting in the Wilkes East and Kelly Creek neighborhoods. Get neighborhoods map!

In the Wilkes East Neighborhood 3 new Scarlet Oak trees will be planted at the south end of Columbia View Park. These trees were purchased by the City of Gresham thru Friends of Trees who will be assisting with the planting. Volunteers will be needed at Columbia View Park for the planting. Note: time change
UPDATE: The Nadaka Nature Park tree planting event is cancelled. It is rescheduled for March 27, 2010. Watch website for details.

The meeting will start with Coalition officer elections, then have an overview of the 2010 Council Work Plan, followed by Neighborhood News, and at 8:00 p.m. the divider will be opened to have a joint discussion about the recently adopted Sustainability Policy with the Natural Resource & Sustainability Committee (NRSC) which meets next door. Nicole Cousino (the AmeriCorps volunteer who is leading the implementation effort) will give an introduction to the Sustainability Policy, and discuss the policy as well as public involvement & outreach efforts.

Public welcome
The Coalition of Gresham Neighborhood Associations was formed to provide structure and support for the leadership of Gresham's neighborhood associations, enabling more effective cooperation among neighborhood associations in order to achieve desired outcomes. Goals of the Coalition include providing a public forum for the review and evaluation of issues and problems, providing education and information on specific areas such as land use, and providing a unified voice for the neighborhood associations.
The Coalition meets monthly on the second Tuesday at 7:00PM

Invitation to Slough Celebration
You're invited to attend the Columbia Slough Watershed Council (CSWC) "Slough Celebration" on Friday, January 29th as they present proudly present Wilkes East's own Lee Dayfield with a 2009 Achievement Award for her work improving Nadaka Nature Park. Ms. Dayfield has championed a neighborhood effort organizing volunteer work parties in partnership with SOLV and the Columbia Slough Watershed Council that brought in 188 volunteers and removed over 14,000 pounds of invasive weeds. Her work at the park has made a significant contribution to the Columbia Slough Watershed’s ecological health and community knowledge.

The Slough Celebration will be held Friday, January 29th at 6:30pm at The Acadian Ballroom located at 1829 NE Alberta St in Portland.

Meeting Notice
"RETREAC" and a contractor based out of San Francisco have applied to open and operate a Methadone Maintenance Treatment Facility for the treatment and counseling of narcotic addiction. [Methadone is a Schedule II Narcotic not to be confused with "Meth"(Methamphetamine)].

This informational meeting is being held at the request of applicant to:

  1. facilitate discussion between neighbors and the applicant
  2. identify any perceived issues regarding the proposal, and
  3. make modifications to the proposal where reasonable.
