Happy New Year Volunteers!

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and were able to get out and play in the snow. Now that the weather has calmed down a bit, we are gathering for another planting event at Butler Creek Greenway on Martin Luther King,Jr weekend. We have about a thousand plants to get in the ground, so any time you can donate and help out would be greatly appreciated. Below is a detailed description of the event. Thank you again to all those who volunteered in the year 2008. I hope to see you in 2009!

Butler Creek Trail Planting Details

During the past year, Gresham Parks and Watershed AmeriCorps Field Teams have been working on restoring the Butler Creek Greenway by removing invasive plants and planting native species. On Saturday, January 17th from 9am-1pm volunteers will have the opportunity to join city employees and Eagle Scouts to help in the restoration process by planting hundreds of trees, shrubs, and other native plants where there were once only invasive weeds. Aside from planting, the project will include removing any regrown English Ivy and mulching the plantings. Volunteers should meet near Butler Creek Park at the corner of SW 27th Dr. and SW 29th Dr. On street parking is available, and snacks and refreshments will be provided. Please bring a water bottle and tumbler/travel mug. Be prepared for rain, to get a little dirty, and to have fun!

Directions: From W Powell Blvd/Mt Hood HWY 26, go south down SW Eastman Pkwy and continue on to SW Towle Ave for about 2 miles. Then turn west onto SW 27th Dr. There will be signs up indicating location of site, and a registration table will be present.

"Everyone can be great because anyone can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't even have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve... You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love…"
