Friends of Nadaka Nelson property working group will meet May 30\, 2012 9AM-11\:30AM at St Aidan's Episcopal Church\, 174th &\; NE Glisan. Public welcome to attend.
Friends of Nadaka and it's community partners are working to secure funding to develop the approved Nelson Master Plan which includes a community garden area\, orchard\, rain garden\, berry patches\, naturescaping and more. When complete\, the Nelson properry will join Nadaka Nature Park (adjacent directly north) as a unified neighborhood park.

Join Jim Labbe with the Audubon Society of Portland and Lee Dayfield with Friends of Nadaka for a morning stroll through Nakada Nature Park in West Gresham on Thursday\, May 31st at 7\:30AM.
We’ll explore the natural and human history of this unique neighborhood nature park and learn about efforts afoot to expand the park\, improve access and environmental interpretation\, and enhance its wildlife habitat. We’ll also begin the documenting of bird species inhabiting the park and discuss the value of urban natural areas to avian biodiversity.

Join Portland Audubon and City of Gresham naturalists for a walk along the newest section of the Gresham-Fairview Trail between Division and Powell. This nighttime walk will focus on the American bitterns that breed in the large wetland just off the trail\, as well as some owl calling and identification. Dozens of other songbirds and waterfowl are likely to be seen. Meet at Linnemann Station on the Springwater Trail.

Summer Sky Highlights
Summertime provides many amazing opportunities for observing the evening sky. Learn about the “Summer Sky Highlights and the Transit of Venus” in the final sky show of the academic year. Planetarium director Pat Hanrahan will show visitors how to locate the planets and prominent constellations\, star clusters\, galaxies and nebulae. He will also review the recent solar eclipse that was visible from Oregon.
Final show
Last show this school year. Planetarium shows will return next fall.
All shows are presented under a realistic representation of the night sky\, featuring the latest galactic\, stellar and planetary images.
Visitors are encouraged to ask questions during each 45-minute program. Children are welcome to attend.

Parking permits are required and may be purchased for $3 at ticket kiosks located by the flagpoles (north parking) and gym (south parking). (Violators will be ticketed)

Free Solar Workshop
Solar Gresham is hosting free solar workshops at the Gresham Public Library in historic downtown. Led by the nonprofit Solar Oregon\, the workshops will cover the basic technology\, benefits and cost of solar. Imagine Energy will be available to answer questions about installation and products. Umpqua Bank will also be on hand to share information on financing opportunities.
RSVP below. The workshops provide a great opportunity to learn more about solar\, whether you’re interested in having it installed at your home or just wanting to learn more about this form of renewable energy.
Solar Gresham is a new program offered through July 31. It offers homeowners solar at up to 80% or more off the cost.

The Spring Weeds workshop will cover milk thistle\, bull thistle\, Scotch thistle\, yellow archangel\, shining geranium\, morning glory\, garlic mustard\, Russian knapweed and Tree of Heaven.

Help us fight off Gresham’s weedy invaders by participating as a Weed Watcher in our Early Detection\, Rapid Response Program. By familiarizing yourself with problem weeds in our area\, you can help us stop these plants in their tracks.
All you have to do is attend one (or all) of our free invasive weed ID classes and use your new plant ID skills to alert us to weeds in Gresham. With your help\, we can keep our city and homes weed free.

Wilkes East Neighborhood has received a Metro Nature in Neighborhood grant for improvements in Nadaka Nature Park which requires matching volunteer hours so your support is needed and greatly appreciated. See you at the park!

Be prepared to get a little dirty and to have fun by supporting and volunteering with Friends of Nadaka and Wilkes East Neighborhood Association in their efforts to restore this natural area by removing invasive underbrush and ivy from Nadaka Nature Park\, part of the Columbia Slough Watershed.
Rain or Shine! Come dressed for weather and help improve Nadaka Nature Park. Bring working gloves &\; a water bottle if you have them. Volunteer as long as you can. Coffee\, juice\, water &\; refreshments provided by Wilkes East Neighborhood.

A Fundrasing Event
